Jesse Asiedu, MD’25 to Present Original Research at SAEM

February 14, 2023

Jesse Asiedu has been selected to present as the first-author of his original research at the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Annual Meeting in Austin, TX in May 2023. Mr. Asiedu participated in the inaugural Underrepresented in Medicine Emergency Medicine Summer Research Program at Maimonides Medical Center during the summer of 2022. He is a second year medical student at the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and is passionate about exploring and finding solutions to disparities in the medical field.

Mr. Asiedu was born and raised in Ghana, West Africa and moved to the United States just over a decade ago to pursue higher education. Before entering medical school, he worked as an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Buffalo State College where he also worked as computing assistant while enrolled in graduate school. Due to his upbringing and experiences, he is no stranger to the hardships that underrepresented minorities face in the health care system.

When he is not in school or working on his research projects, Mr. Asiedu is looking for opportunities to mentor aspiring medical students; helping to prepare their applications and teaching study and time management techniques to be successful in college and medical school.

His recent research project that will be presented at the SAEM Annual Meeting focused on the trends of underrepresented minorities in Emergency Medicine:
