Highly Competitive Salary & Comprehensive Benefits Package 

Maimonides Medical Center residents are members of the Committee on Interns and Residents (CIR), a union representing house staff officers in the United States. Salary and benefits are discussed and arranged after a process of review and discussion in conjunction with CIR representatives. As a result, Maimonides offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package.


As of 4/1/2018, the current negotiated salaries are as follows.

  • PGY 1: $62,247

  • PGY 2: $66,652

  • PGY 3: $70,192

Effective 4/1/2019, each House Staff Officer shall receive a 1% increase and PGY base rates shall be adjusted accordingly.

  • PGY 1: $62,869

  • PGY 2: $67,318

  • PGY 3: $70,894

Effective 10/1/2019, each House Staff Officer shall receive a 1% increase and PGY base rates shall be adjusted accordingly.

  • PGY 1: $63,498

  • PGY 2: $67,992

  • PGY 3: $71,603

Benefits Include:

  • A comprehensive medical care plan is provided through the Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield POS Plan. It is administered by the CIR. Either individual or family coverage is available. The Employer shall make monthly contributions for the purpose of providing health and welfare benefits for each House Staff Officer employed within the CIR/SEIU bargaining unit and their eligible dependents to the Voluntary Hospitals House Staff Benefits Plan (VHHSBP) on the first day of each month.

  • Pharmacy services through co-payments.

  • Dental coverage is provided through Guardian. There is a minor monthly fee.

  • Vision plan through CIR.

  • Life, Disability, Malpractice, Travel and Accident Insurance (Group Life, short- and long-term disability insurance fully paid by the hospital).

  • Worker's Compensation Insurance.

  • 403-b Tax Sheltered Annuity Plans (Prudential and TIAA-CREF).

  • Vacation: 4 weeks annual vacation (must be approved by the Chair or Program Director on a case-by-case basis taking into consideration academic requirements and scheduling needs of the department).

  • Medical Education Benefits: Up to $525 per academic year towards the cost of an Educational Conference, Board Review, textbooks, journals, electronic equivalents, PDAs, and/or exam fees, subject to the approval of the Chairperson or designee.  

  • Discounted employee parking; free parking when on-call with a parking voucher from the department.

  • Free legal services covering immigration service and other areas.

  • All House Staff Officers including Fellows in their final year will be entitled to receive for educational conference and/or Board Review, leave time of up to three (3) additional paid days subject to the approval of the department.

  • 11 Holidays - Any House Staff officer who works a holiday will receive an additional day's pay or a day off in leiu of.  The decision will be up to the discretion of each department's Program Director.

  • 12 Sick days

  • 1 Personal day

  • Up to 5 Bereavement days

  • 3 Marriage leave days

  • Maternity and family leave

  • 1 Paternity day

  • Flexible Spending Account

  • Lab coats, lockers and free meals when on-call
