Jeanette Kurbedin, DO Receives National Recognition for Her Contributions to Teaching and Evaluation

The Council of Residency Directors in Emergency Medicine (CORD) Academy for Scholarship in Education in Emergency Medicine is pleased to offer the Academy Award to outstanding educators who have met rigorous standards of academic excellence within the last five years. The Academy Award supports the mission of the Academy by recognizing those educators who have an exemplary record of achievement in emergency medicine education and advancing the development of a network of mentors for future growth in emergency medicine education scholarship. This year, Dr. Jeanette Kurbedin has been awarded by the Academy for her stellar contributions in Teaching and Evaluation as an Academy Scholar.

Dr. Jeanette Kurbedin is the Clerkship Director and an ultrasound faculty member at Maimonides Medical Center. She holds an academic appointment of Assistant Clinical Professor at both the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition to her teaching and mentorship of senior medical students, she teaches weekly foundational courses and ultrasound courses for pre-clinical medical students. Dr. Kurbedin is also actively involved in resident education and teaches frequently during weekly didactic conferences. Nationally, she has been an integral part of the EMRA Medical Student Forum for advising medical students across all four years and has created long-term meaningful relationships with her students. She has spoke nationally at conferences about mentorship, diversity, equity, and inclusion and ultrasound. Dr. Kurbedin is an active faculty involved with the US Division and teaches at the annual Maimonides Medical Center Block Camp and Tri-State Pediatric Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Conference. She has taught TEE workshops at AIUM and spoken widely about the use of ultrasound during cardiac arrest.
