Grace Glassman, MD Awarded as an “Unsung Hero” by New York ACEP

November 15, 2022

A New York State Emergency Medicine Unsung Hero goes beyond simply being the embodiment of what it means to be an emergency physician. They are a stalwart of the emergency department, who is deeply committed to the mission of the emergency department, their colleagues, co-workers and patients. The unsung hero is always willing to help a colleague — within the clinical environment or not. They are the trusted individual who is known to bring comfort and a smile to the faces of all those around.

Dr. Grace Glassman has significantly impacted our institution and our department through her quiet advocacy, dedication, and leadership over the past decade. She is a strong and compassionate role model and currently serves as the only woman in an administrative leadership role in our department. She continually encourages the women in our department to pursue their career aspirations and provides support for their growth through her role as the Associate Medical Director. She clearly cares about her people every bit as much as the operational mission they must accomplish. Over the past several years, she has helped to spearhead a number of important initiatives within the institution, including in her role as Chief of Patient Experience and a Program Director for the Health Scholars Internship, a twelve-week program designed to provide mentorship and clinical exposure to the health professions for high school and college students.

Dr. Glassman is an incredibly accomplished and humble physician. She strives to elevate others into the spotlight rather than highlight her own accomplishments. She embodies the spirit of the “Unsung Hero Award” and deserves recognition of her many hours spent comforting, problem-solving, and advocating for her colleagues both within and outside of the clinical environment.

Dr. Glassman is an Associate Medical Director for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center. She received her medical degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons in 2004 followed by four years of emergency medicine residency training at the New York Presbyterian University Hospitals of Columbia and Cornell. In 2011, Dr. Glassman joined the faculty at Maimonides Medical Center as an attending emergency physician. In 2017 she was promoted to Associate Medical Director and then in 2018 to Associate Medical Director. Dr. Glassman is the Chief Physician for Patient Experience and the Director of Scheduling. She serves as a Program Director for several educational training programs based in the Department of Emergency Medicine including the Emergency Medicine Administration Fellowship, the Maimonides Health Scholars Program, a 12-week healthcare internship for high school and college students, and the Physician Assistant Emergency Medicine Clinical Rotation Program.
